project description
Project is aiming at giving an opportunity for young people with fewer opportunities to have a safe first EVS experience of two months. This way, the volunteers will be able to participate in longer term EVS projects in the future.
The project will host 4 to 6 EVS volunteers from April 1st, 2016 to May 31st, 2017 in Rome, Italy. (The final number of volunteers will be decided based on the profile and specific needs).
EVS volunteers will be working together with long-term Italian Civil Service volunteers of the organisation to document “mobility” stories of people with physical disabilities living in Rome, who are also immigrants for different reasons.
In the beginning of the project the volunteers will be exploring the concept of “mobility” from different angles. The stories will be documented in various formats based on interest and competences of volunteers.

Receiving organization
UILDM is present throughout Italy with over 70 branches, who are coordinated by the main offices set in Padua. It is a no-profit organisation whose aims are to foster social inclusion of people with disabilities and to promote research, prevention and assistance in the field of neuromuscular diseases.
The Sezione Laziale of UILDM was founded in Rome in 1967. It is the branch with the highest amount of members in the national network, providing social and rehabilitation services to over a thousand users with neuro-muscular diseases in the Lazio region. Besides, an important percentage of the staff of the organisation are people with disabilities.
The organisation has always been active in providing social and rehabilitation services to people with neuro-muscular diseases, in developing specific assistance to people with disabilities for free and in promoting a cultural change aimed at taking into consideration the needs of people with disabilities. Besides carrying out medical and scientific services, the Sezione Laziale is engaged in raising public awareness concerning a culture of disability, in improving quality of life and promoting equal opportunities.
The organisation includes a Health Area which offers services of rehabilitation and research and a Social Area (ASIS). A.S.I.S. (Social Integration Service Area) is the field of UILDM offering support services, guidance and counseling to support Independent Living. The philosophy of our work is to help our service users in becoming active protagonists by promoting processes of autonomy and independence. In our services, particular attention is paid to the people aged between 15 and 30 years old as this is the age group going through the self-development process towards autonomy and social integration.

* have established systems to support the learning processes of young people (sending mentors, pre-departure training procedures, follow-up plan);
* who are also willing to create similar hosting projects for the next year.

how to apply
Please contact us by September 5th with information on your organisation, the support systems in place and profile of potential volunteers.
Based on partner composition, volunteer selection will be done during September 2016.
